Week 2 Three G's

Don’t you hate it when you wake yourself up just before your alarm goes off in the morning? I do that on a regular basis, but a recent occurrence of this event was unique. A very minor and random facet of a dream led me to spit onto my pillow, and thus on myself. Good morning. Maybe it had something to do with my fantasy football weekend because I definitely spat on myself there. At least I hit on several of my “Three G’s” last week. Here are my picks for Week 2:

 QB
1.       Gimme: Philip Rivers—I wouldn’t have made this pick in week one, but after seeing the likes of Chad Henne throw all over the Patriots defense, I expect big things from Rivers in week two.
2.       Game-Changer: Matthew Stafford—Ryan Fitzpatrick threw four touchdowns against Kansas City last week. If he can do it, so can Stafford. The Chiefs also lost safety Eric Berry for the season.
3.       Gamble: Rex Grossman—He performed well against the Giants in week one, and yes, they are banged up in the secondary. Arizona just let Cam Newton set a record for passing yards in a quarterback’s debut. 300 yards and 2 TD for Grossman this week.

RB
1.       Gimme: Peyton Hillis—Indianapolis looks really, really bad. Hillis should have a bounce-back game this week.
2.       Game-Changer: LeGarrette Blount—Picking him in week one turned out to be well wide of the mark, but I have faith. Tampa Bay was trailing and he didn’t get many touches. If he can’t put up numbers against a Minnesota defense that was stampeded last week, he might find his way to the fantasy cellar.
3.       Gamble: Darren Sproles—He won’t get the most carries at running back, and it’s unlikely he returns another kick in week two, but I liked what I saw in week one from Sproles in the passing game. He could have double digit touches in week two, which might lead to double digit fantasy points.

WR
1.       Gimme: Vincent Jackson—There is just no way Jackson is as quiet this week as he was in week one. The game looks to turn into a shootout, and I already think Philip Rivers throws for 350 yards. Jackson breaks out with 100 yards and a TD in week two.
2.       Game-Changer: Plaxico Burress—He was held without a catch for the majority of the game, but was able to help keep the Jets offense moving late in the game. This is the week he breaks out against the Jaguars.
3.       Gamble: Deion Branch—Was seven catches for 93 yards a fluke? The aforementioned shootout should help him to equal that total in week two.

TE
1.       Gimme: Owen Daniels—His production was down in week one, but Miami allowed plenty of opportunity for Aaron Hernandez last week. Daniels looks to keep that trend going.
2.       Game-Changer: Brandon Pettigrew—He had the second-most targets on the team last week, behind only Calvin Johnson. The Chiefs gave up three TD to a tight end last week.
3.       Gamble: Aaron Hernandez—He got involved in the offense a lot last week, and I look for more of the same. The risk involved is that he shares the targets with fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski.

D/ST
1.       Gimme: Steelers D/ST—This wouldn’t normally be a team worth mentioning, but they scored negative points in week one. This week, they draw Seattle. San Francisco scored the most fantasy points among defenses last week when they played Seattle. The Steelers D will come into the game feeling that they have something to prove, and this could get ugly in a hurry. It wouldn’t surprise me if they scored two D/ST touchdowns.
2.       Lions D/ST—They looked awfully tough against the run in week one, and the Chiefs’ passing game isn’t spectacular. If they stuff Jamaal Charles like they did LeGarrette Blount, this could be a dominating performance.
3.       Cowboys D/ST—They didn’t score many fantasy points in week one, but I thought they looked pretty good as a whole. The downside is the secondary, but they are playing against Alex Smith this week.

Kicker Pickup of the Week: Nick Novak—Nate Kaeding (fantasy’s #1 kicker) is out for the season, and Novak was just signed by the Chargers as his replacement. Pick him up this week, and possibly hang on to him for the season.
